Celebrate Arbor Day on April 25, 2008!

Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care.  Nearly three million people came to arborday.org last year to learn about tree planting and care and what they can do to make a difference in their communities. Most of the nation will celebrate Arbor Day, Friday, April 25th.  However, since Naples, Florida is a subtropical enivoronment, we actually celebrate the observance on January.  Nonetheless, Welcome to Naples.  We are honored to be a "TREE CITY USA", eleven years running.  Learn more about Tree City USA.

Relay for Life Charity Event video of the Survivors Lap at Gulfview Middle School in downtown Olde Naples.  Relay for Life began this evening with opening ceremonies at 6pm and teams will walk for 18 hours to raise money and awareness.  If you're lucky enough, please donate.

The 20th Anniversary Downtown Naples Festival of the Arts is being held this weekend all along 5th Ave South in Olde Naples.  This art show is considered one of the top 100 in the country and will feature artists and crafters on Saturday, March 29th and Sunday March 30th from 10am to 5pm.

Bark in the Park is held this Saturday, March 15, 2007 from 10 to 3 pm.  The free event is sponsored by the Humane Society Naples and well behaved pets and their people are all welcomed.  ABC-7 news anchor Len Jennings will be one of the celebrity judges for the event.  Registration for the competition begins at 10 a.m. and contests are at Noon; best costume, best owner-dog look-alike, most irish, etc.  Adoptable pets will be on hand and ready to go home.  Donations for the shelter are encouraged and appreciated.  Fleischmann Park is located just south of the Coastland Center Mall in Naples on Fleischmann Boulevard.  For more information visit  the Humane Society Naples online at www.CollierHumaneSoc.org or call 239.643.1880

According to Travel + Leisure Golf magazine, several Naples communities made the cut in America’s Top 100 Golf Communities.  While Naples offers many choices to live in a golf community, here are the winners of the annual list; Bay Colony, Fiddler’s Creek, Grey Oak’s, Mediterra, Tuscany Reserve and Twin Eagles. The list is compiled by eligibility; “communities must offer property owners an opportunity for membership in an affiliated private golf club. Limited public access to the course-such as for guests at a resort-is allowed but my detract from the communities ranking.” This may explain why many courses such as Tiburon with the Ritz Carlton did not make the list. There are approximately 65 golf communities in Naples, Florida. Oh the weather outside was far from frightful in Naples, Florida.  We enjoyed an afternoon boat ride thru the Naples Bay and spotted this beautiful sailboat (small only at a distance) with us enjoying the 80º temperatures.  The weather in Naples, Florida is the reason we live here now and year round.  The picture is taken from Keewaydin Island looking out to the southern tip of the Port Royal and Beach Estates area in the City of Naples.  This is the Gordon Pass obviously deep enough for large scale sailboats (see picture below) and the small ones too at Gordon Pass.

The famous Greg Norman hosted the Merrill Lynch Shootout at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida on Dec. 5-9, 2007.  This Pro-am tournament teams professionals and amateurs.  Tiburon Golf Club is a Greg Norman Golf Course Design.  Norman is an international developer of residential golf course communities and is a World Golf Hall of Fame member.  Tiburon has a total of 36 holes of golf divided by two 18 hole courses, The Black course and The Gold course.  The Merrill Lynch Shootout will benefit charities including the National Childhood Cancer Foundation.

The Naples Municipal Airport should expect record breaking flight arrivals and departures on January 24-27, 2008.  Private aircraft from all over the world will be arriving for the Naples Winter Wine Festival.  This event is the most exclusive, prestigious and successful charity wine events in the world and has raised more than 55 million for the Naples Children and Education Foundation.  One of the founding sponsors, the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort is the location for the wine auction from 11am to 5pm on Saturday.  A Wine-Down Party will be held downtown Naples after the auction.  Sunday brunch again will be at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort.  Please don't be confused, we have two.  The Ritz-Carlton, Naples has three miles of beach with sunset views of the Gulf of Mexico and was listed by the Robb Report as one of the "100 Best Places to Stay in 2006."  

The Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers is a short 45 minute drive to downtown Naples.  The International Airport has served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2006 and nearly 5.3 million passengers have traveled to and from the airport this year.  They are celebrating twelve consecutive months of record-breaking passenger traffic and are among the top 50 busiest U. S. airports.

Sweetbay Supermarket will be opening soon and offers yet another choice for where to shop for groceries around the city of Naples.  Magnolia Square is located on the the northeast corner of Pine Ridge Road and Goodlette Frank Road, that's 4.5 miles or 9 minutes to Fifth Ave S. in downtown Naples.  For years I have shopped at the Neapolitan Publix in Park Shore.  Publix Supermarket is also in the Naples Shopping Plaza in The Moorings.  Wynn's is locally owned and located on 9th St. N (US 41) just south of Central Ave. in Olde Naples.  The Fresh Market in Park Shore between Neapolitan and Park Shore on US 41 offers another fine food shopping experience.  Sorry Bernie, No Dogs allowed!  He gets to GO to the Pet Supermarket in Park Shore.   

A Patriot is a person who loves, supports and defends his country.  Forever more, September 11th is Patriot Day in the USA.  Thank you to all the service men and women who make it possible to enjoy our freedom in this beautiful country.  I remember singing, "Freedom isn't free" at Eastlawn Elementary in Indiana.  Years later, I understand the price others have paid for my freedom.  Let us never forget.
